Functional safety expanded

New safety functions for NORDAC ON and NORDAC LINK

The ongoing digitalization, automation, and decentralization of industry makes functional safety an indispensable aspect of NORD drive solutions. Our decentralized frequency inverters NORDAC ON and the latest version of NORDAC LINK have therefore received a comprehensive safety upgrade: In addition to STO and SS1, the safe motion functions SLS, SMS, and SSM are also integrated for safety-oriented monitoring of rotary motion. For the operation of plants and machines, this means: safe stopping and fast restarting.

The variants can be integrated via PROFIsafe or FSoE into a safety-related application in an existing Industrial Ethernet network. The desired Industrial Ethernet dialect is simply parameterized during commissioning. Stand-alone use is also possible, for example for a single-axis machine. In this case, the safety-related digital inputs of the inverters can also be used to integrate safety-related peripheral components. This allows emergency stop buttons, safety door switches, and light barriers to be connected directly – without any additional hardware, installation, or cabling.

A new modular system makes system design more flexible


Extensive conveyor technology in intralogistics benefits from decentralized drive solutions. However, different types of installation and variations in performance or function often require additional installations. NORD's solution: a modular system with integrated communication and safety functions.

 

What it includes

  • Energy-efficient motors: IE3 asynchronous motor, IE5+ synchronous motor
  • Decentralized frequency inverters: NORDAC LINK with new, extended functionality for 0.37 to 7.5 kW (wall mounting), NORDAC FUSION consisting of NORDAC ON for 0.37–3.7 kW (motor mounting & wall mounting) and IE3/IE5+ motor

What it offers

  • Universality: Both frequency converters have identical communication and safety functions.
  • Functional safety: Both frequency converters can be integrated into a safety-related application via PROFIsafe or FSoE. Numerous safety functions can be implemented without encoders. Safety-related peripherals can also be connected via safe inputs and outputs.
  • Sensorless control: Both frequency inverters enable the control of synchronous motors without rotary encoders thanks to the CFC open-loop injection method.

With our latest IE5+ motor generation, we offer highly efficient solutions for significantly reducing energy and resource consumption in industry. Now, the performance range of compact permanent magnet synchronous motors is being significantly expanded with a third size.

NORD Drive Technology Optimizes TCO

An extremely effective measure to reduce the total cost of ownership is the use of highly efficient synchronous motors. These motors developed by NORD have an efficiency class that is in some cases better than IE5. The current standard in Europe is efficiency class IE3.
