Beyond Coatings: How NXD tupHTM sets a New Benchmark for Hygienic Aluminum Drive Systems
Discover the principle behind NORD DRIVESYSTEMS’ state-of-the-art corrosion protection for aluminum drive solutions. NXD tupHTM combines high durability, hygienic design, and long-term resistance—delivering reliable performance in corrosive and wash-down environments.
Want to learn more about NORD products and solutions? Visit us in Hall 1, Booth 1A605. We look forward to seeing you there.
With the state-of-the-art NXD tupH® surface treatment, NORD aluminium drive units become incredibly corrosion resistant. This system consists of a process that converts the surface of an aluminum housing at the molecular level, transforming it into a harder, more durable material that significantly increases durability. This hardened layer, combined with a clear sealant achieves extreme resistance compared to the untreated aluminium alloy.
NXD tupH prevents flaking, blistering, and other corrosive infiltration. The protective effect remains intact even in the event of minor damage to the housing, offering major advantages when used in hygienic areas such as food, beverage, packaging, pharmaceutical, and chemical applications. Surfaces treated with NXD tupH are PFAS-free and food-compliant in accordance with the FDA, EU Regulation 1935/2004, and the regulations of Switzerland and MERCOSUR countries.
High-efficiency smooth body motors from NORD DRIVESYSTEMS feature a hygienic, fully enclosed design offering several key advantages for wash-down and other extreme operating environments:
IE3/IE5+ motors consume less electrical energy than motors in lower efficiency classes, reducing operating costs and energy consumption.
NORD smooth body motors have a fin-less, wash-down design, preventing dirt, dust, and bacteria from accumulating on their surfaces. This ensures these motors are easy to clean while meeting strict hygiene standards, such as those in food processing and packaging facilities.
The design of NORD smooth body motors eliminates fan openings, preventing water, cleaning agents, dust, and particles from entering the interior.
The enclosed design of these motors eliminates areas where contamination can enter, resulting in less wear and fewer maintenance tasks over the lifecycle of the units.
With no fan present, these motors typically run more quietly, reducing overall noise pollution.
NORDAC ON/ON+ VFDs were developed to meet the special requirements of horizontal conveyor technology and are designed for use with IE3 asynchronous motors (NORDAC ON) and IE5+ synchronous motors (NORDAC ON+). They are characterized by an integrated Ethernet interface, full Plug-and-Play capabilities, and a very compact design, providing a reliable, economic solution for IIoT environments. The NORDAC ON PURE will soon be available as a decentralized frequency inverter with the NXD tupH Sealed Surface Conversion System for use in wash-down and other extreme environments.
NORD’s latest generation of IE5+ motors offers high efficiency solutions that significantly reduce energy and resource consumption. Compact and reliable, the performance range of these permanent magnet synchronous motors has been significantly expanded with the addition of a third frame size.
DuoDrive is a two-in-one geared motor concept integrated into a hygienic housing for wash-down environments or applications with very limited installation space. It combines a high-efficiency IE5+ PMS motor with a single-stage helical gear reducer within a single housing. This drive solution is highly efficient, has high power capacity, and operates quietly, making it ideal for intralogistics, food processing, and pharmaceutical applications. This ready-to-use drive offers simple commissioning and significant reduction in Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) compared to other drive systems.
In addition to investment costs, operating costs represent a significant portion of the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) over the lifecycle of a drive system. These costs primarily consist of energy costs, administrative expenses, and inventory management, as well as logistics and storage costs. Improving energy efficiency and reducing variants are crucial factors in optimizing the overall profitability of a facility.
NORD's IE4 synchronous motors enable lower energy consumption and reduced operating costs, delivering their full energy-saving potential at partial loads and low speeds, such as those found on conveyor belts. Additionally, the ability to reduce variants within the system minimizes administrative costs and reduces spare parts inventory. Reducing operating costs generates yearly savings, improving the profitability of the facility.
